Seven Good Reasons To Start Your Own Internet Business. Why would anyone want to start an internet business? After reading this article, you may very well ask; How can anyone NOT want to start an internet business? Compared to a 'traditional' offline business, an internet-based business has many benefits, let's take a quick look at some of the most obvious: You're The Boss. The most immediate benefit is simply that you are the boss. You set the rules and you run the show. You decide what hours you are going to work, when to take a break, when to take a day off... and if you work for yourself and your boss is a demanding slave-driver, it's your own fault. As the boss and owner, the profit generated from your hard work isn't flowing into the bank account of another person or some corporation, it goes to you and you get to enjoy the full benefits of your labors. Setting your own goals and working your own hours allows you to better balance your work and family needs too. No more nine-to-five, plus commute for you! You get to watch all your kids soccer games, you can shop when the stores aren't packed, you get to play with the dog and spend more quality time with your spouse. Easy, Inexpensive Start-Up. Another big benefit is that you can get started part-time, while still drudging for the corporation and pulling in a regular paycheck. Contrast that with starting something like a bait-and-tackle shop, where you would usually have to quit your job and devote all your energy to the new venture. Start-up costs for an internet business are so low it's almost absurd. At a minimum it takes a computer, a dependable internet connection, some basic office supplies and a corner to work in. Add in a low cost web hosting package and we're only talking about a couple hundred dollars -- and that's if you had to go out and buy a decent used computer. I can't think of any off-line business that you can start for so little. Certainly nothing that I'd want to be involved in. Low Operating Costs. There are a TON of free services and products online that any new internet marketer can take advantage of. You can get free software & free website components, affiliate programs are free to join, and there are hundreds of free ebooks, forums and e-zines you can get to learn how to build and run an online business. Advertising for affiliate programs is the absolute easiest way to get started, but if you wanted to open an internet or eBay store with products that people can buy, you can either produce your own or hook up with a drop-shipper who will stock and ship them for you. You can find out more about that with these free ebooks: "Starting Your Internet Business Right" and "Understanding the Internet for Home Business". The good things about drop-shippers is that you will usually make more than you do from an affiliate program, and you don't even have to pay for the items until you actually sell them (no inventory to stock). The problem with them is that most won't work with someone who is just starting out. Fortunately, there are low-cost options if that's the way you want to go. There are companies like Doba who already have wholesale accounts with several drop-shippers. For about $25 a month you could hook up with them and add thousands of products to your website. Companies like that take a cut from each sale, but they also do almost all of the work. Advertising an online business is inexpensive too. There are lots of free advertising options, and strategies that are free but do take time to implement, but that's just building traffic and part of the job. If you have the budget for advertising there are many options that give a good return for a small investment. Google AdWords or Yahoo Sponsored Search for PPC advertising, AdLandPro for banner or classified ads, and thousands of e-zine publishers sell ad space for as little as five or ten dollars a month. You simply cannot get that kind of exposure in the off-line world unless you are willing and able to spend thousands. There are also tax benefits to running an online business. These vary depending on your location, so check with an accountant, but you can certainly write off most or all of your operating costs. Part of your rent, your phone, all advertising & training materials, etc. All that contributes to an absurdly high ROI. If you consider the potential for profit and the low start-up and operating costs, you'll see why it does not take long to start making a profit. The Internet Never Closes. An internet business runs all day, every day. There are free and low-cost tools that you can use to automate some tasks, so even when you are sleeping you are still making money. When you are working, you can concentrate on other things and let the automation do the tedious work. The Internet Is World-Wide. An off-line business is often limited geographically; a business in Kansas simply can't service a customer in Australia, but an internet business can service customers anywhere. I've read that there are over a billion people with an internet connection now. That's a potential market of mind-blowing proportions. Help Is All Around You. As a rule, people like that "Warm And Fuzzy Feeling" they get from helping someone out. Internet marketers are no different. A newbie will soon learn that he has joined a community of amazingly open and helpful people. It may be that, as a group, we don't really get out much... but whatever the reason, the fact is that we are a supportive bunch. There are dozens of good forums where anyone can go and get advice on any and all aspects of website design and promotion. Yes, there is a 'Learning Curve' that any internet business owner has to climb, but with the support of the community and all the information that is available, you will find that getting to the top is not as difficult as it looked from the start. There's no real need to start from scratch and waste time figuring out what to do, either. You can shorten the learning curve by picking a business model that works and putting the same tools and techniques to work for your own business. Personal Satisfaction. This may very well be the biggest benefit of all. The checks, the flexible schedule and all that other stuff is great, but the satisfaction of running your own successful business is immense, and the pride that comes from that will have you walking tall. So - what are you waiting for? An internet business offers so many benefits and so few risks that it may very well be your best path to personal success and financial independence. Get started now.
